B.O.B. bites off more then he can chew when he asks SpongeBob, Jimmy and Timmy for a promotion.
B.O.B. desires a promotion after SpongeBob forbids him to look at a joke contained in a classified mission file. SpongeBob agrees to such a promotion, but only if B.O.B. can pass a one-on-one survival test against "the most fearsome beast in the concrete village" on the streets of Cartoon World, where he is soon taken.
Left alone in an alley, B.O.B. is passed a cassette player by SpongeBob, Jimmy and Timmy containing audio instructions on how to outwit this enemy. However, B.O.B.'s test is soon interrupted by the arrival of Sheen, Chester and Patrick, who believe they are on a camping trip and consistently get in the way of B.O.B. trying to follow the tape's directive.
Eventually, Jimmy reveals the specificity of the enemy B.O.B. must confront through song: an evil, ghostly city bus notorious for making roadkill out of old citizens of Nick-Ville known as the "Graveyard Eight." In order to pass his test, B.O.B. must confront the bus and bring back a souvenir from it.
This inevitable confrontation occurs when the bus comes by while Sheen, Chester and Patrick are "sewer fishing" and entangles their fishing lines in its bumper, taking them with it as B.O.B. races to catch up.
Sheen soon gets himself free, but goes inside the bus with B.O.B. to look for something sharp to free Chester and Patrick, which B.O.B. accomplishes with the name badge of the driver, a short, elderly woman with a deep voice.
For his successful encounter with Graveyard Eight, B.O.B. is promoted to Private First Class.
